Lifesource was formed in 1998 to promote the revolutionary Buteyko method, a drug-free treatment for asthma and other breathing problems, which enables every asthma sufferer to reduce their dependency on asthma drugs and become co-creators in their own health and wellbeing.

As a recognised authority on complementary asthma treatments, Lifesource was invited to teach the Buteyko method in the context of its first UK clinical trial (1999-2001), funded by the National Asthma Campaign, now Asthma UK. In 2002 Lifesource produced the Breathology Programme, based on their face-to-face teaching of the Buteyko breathing method to asthma sufferers who volunteered for the trial and who then achieved a 100% reduction in bronchodilators.


	Susan Mitchell was the first Buteyko practitioner in the UK to be fully certified in the Eucapnic Buteyko Method, which is the method accredited by the Buteyko Practitioner Association (Australia) to train doctors and other health professionals. In 1993 she qualified as a hypnotherapist, psychotherapist and practitioner of neuro-linguistics. Susan’s New Years Resolution on the eve of 2001 was to produce a self-help asthma course that could reach asthma sufferers globally and promote the Buteyko asthma cure worldwide. In March 2002 the Breathology Programme was published, enabling asthma sufferers anywhere in the world to access the Buteyko breathing asthma treatment and other real alternatives to asthma drugs.

	John Mankey had suffered asthma since the age of two. In 1998 he trained with Sasha Stalmatski (prodigy of Professor Buteyko) in the Buteyko breathing method. John immediately stopped using his bronchodilators and reduced his steroid medication. He subsequently stopped using all asthma drugs. This was after having asthma for thirty-three years. John later assisted Sasha in his workshops teaching asthma patients the Buteyko breathing method. John then trained with the Eucapnic Buteyko Education and Training Centre as a Buteyko practitioner. His experience of training and successful management of his own asthma uniquely qualifies him to help other asthmatics to improve the quality of their lives.
